What Is Drive Green With National Grid?

Drive Green with National Grid is a program that makes it easier for you to get an electric car and help lower greenhouse gas levels. On behalf of National Grid, Green Energy Consumers, a non-profit organization, has built up a network of dealers who offer fixed monthly discounts on electric vehicles to program participants. To get the discounts, simply sign up by choosing a car(s) and get connected with the dealer(s) of your choice! Our website also has tons of electric vehicle information and Green Energy Consumers is always available to answer your questions, by phone (800-287-3950 ext. 7), email (, or chat.

As a special end-of-year offer, National Grid customers in upstate New York who purchase an electric vehicle by December 31, 2019 will also receive a $500 prepaid giftcard. That's enough to cover 12,000 miles driven on electricity. Learn more and apply here.

How Does It Work?

  1. Read up on electric vehicles on our website and learn about the cars.
  2. Choose the car(s) and get connected with the dealer(s) of your choice.
  3. Connect with dealers of your choice and test-drive if desired.
  4. Buy or lease your new ride with a Drive Green with National Grid discount. You will get both the Drive Green with National Grid discount and the state Drive Clean rebate at the point of purchase. (Note: Time restrictions apply to deals.)
  5. If you purchased, apply for the federal tax credit when it comes time to do your taxes.
